Music festivals in July

About ten music festivals will take place in different places in Estonia in July. In addition to Estonian top musicians, orchestras, choirs and soloists from abroad will be performing. Various festivals present music from Baroque to the present day.

Haapsalu Early Music Festival, July 2 – 6

The aim of the festival is to bring our musicians and audience closer to the era of early music by high-level performances.


Viljandi Early Music Festival, July 6 – 13

The oldest early music festival in Estonia presents concerts in churches, different halls and other venues in Viljandi.


Hiiumaa Chamber Music Days, July 11 – 13

Music of Seven Towns, July 11 – 18

Ida-Virumaa County’s summer festival takes place for the 10th time this year and offers 11 concerts throughout 8 days. The programme includes classical music, as well as early music and jazz.


Pärnu Opera Days, July 11 – 12

The main guest of VI Pärnu Opera Days is „Helikon-Opera” from Moscow with the director Dmitri Bertman and conductor Vladimir Ponkin.


Festival Glasperlenspiel, July 16 – 27

Annual music festival „Glasperlenspiel” is inspired by subject-matter of Hermann Hesse’s novel of the same name. Thereof the attempt is to observe and present music from uncommon angle of view. Concerts of „Glasperlenspiel” take place mainly in Tartu, festival can be partaken also in Tallinn and Pärnu.


David Oistrakh Festival, July 18 – 29

This year’s David Oistrakh Festival is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the legendary violinist. The main concert venues are Pärnu St. Elizabeth’s Church, Pärnu Town Hall and Pärnu Concert Hall. Festival organisers wish to keep alive the spirituality created by Oistrakh: to invite here the best musicians with exciting music, including premieres.


Rapla Church Music Festival, July 20 – August 9

The purpose of the festival is to bring quality music also to small chuches in Estonian countryside, focusing foremost on valuable works from the ecclesiastical repertoire, but also from secular one. Festival concerts take place in churches of counties of Raplamaa, Järvamaa, Viljandimaa and Läänemaa.


Saaremaa Opera Days, July 21 – 27

The first Saaremaa Opera Days in Kuressaare presents stage productions of Black American Opera Broadway and Theatre Vanemuine, gala concert of soloists from Vienna State Opera, The Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow), Ankara State Opera and Estonian National Opera, solo recitals of bass Ain Anger and baritone Tommi Hakala and concert of Estonian National Male Choir.
