Veljo Tormis’s opera “Swan Flight” in Pärnu

The opening concert of the season of Pärnu Philharmonic Society and Pärnu Concert Hall will present Veljo Tormis’s opera “Swan Flight”. Opera will be performed by Pärnu City Orchestra, Mixed Choir Endla, Helen Lokuta (soprano), Oliver Kuusik (tenor) and René Soom (bass). Conductor is Jüri Alperten, director Hardi Volmer. Concert will take place on September 14 at 5 pm in Pärnu Concert Hall.

Tormis’s only opera was created on Kaarel Ird’s scenario and Enn Vetemaa’s liberetto, based on Osvald Tooming’s tale of the same name. The premiere took place in Tartu, theatre Vanemuine in 1966. Chamber opera discusses relationships between man and nature, contacts between human beings and inner struggles of soul.
