Heino Eller 120

On March 7, 2007, 120 years have passed since the birth of Heino Eller, one of the pioneers of Estonian professional music and a founder of the national Tartu school of composition. In March and April, jubilee events organised by Estonian Theatre and Music Museum will take place in Tallinn. Eller's birthday will also be celebrated by Estonian Klassikaraadio.

On March 7, the awarding ceremony of the Heino Eller Music Prize will take place in Theatre and Music Museum, Tallinn. Awarded by Estonian Theatre and Music Museum in 1998, the Heino Eller Music Prize is designed to recognize successful creative activities and propagation or investigation of Eller's musical heritage. Last year the prize was awarded to composer Ülo Krigul. This day also the book of memories "Chronicle of a summer" by Ellu Eller, the wife of the composer, will be presented, and the exhibition "From Down to Homeland Tune. Heino Eller 120" will be opened in Theatre and Music Museum.
On March 7, Estonian Radio's Klassikaraadio will broadcast a special programme on occasion of the 120th birthday of Heino Eller. Through the day recordings of the works by Eller, his followers and laureates of the Eller Music Prize can be listened. Composer's work and life will be discussed in the broadcast titled as "Music smelling of resin". The Heino Eller jubilee programme has been compiled by Kersti Inno.
On April 13, a concert "In the radiance of homeland tune" consisting of the works by Heino Eller Music Prize laureates will take place in TMM. On October 1, the International Music Day, the presentation of the jubilee almanac "In the light of the down" is scheduled at the same place. In the course of the year, other events celebrating the 120th birthday of Heino Eller are expected.
