Cyberstudio multimedia concert presents: new works by Timo Steiner and Tõnis Kaumann

On March 20, music by Toivo Tulev, Timo Steiner, Tõnis Kaumann and Mart Siimer will be presented in a multimedia performance of the ensemble Cyberstudio at the KUMU Art Museum. Among four works, Flute Concerto by Timo Steiner and "Montes Gelboe" by Tõnis Kaumann will have a premiere. In the concert programme music is combined with light design and video. Ensemble Vox Clamantis with Jaan-Eik Tulve is engaged. Two of the works will be conducted by Tõnu Kaljuste.

Being scored for solo flute, jazz group (double bass and electric guitar), five percussionists and electronics Timo Steiner's Flute Concerto is intriguing. Tõnis Kaumann's "Montes Gelboe" is inspired by Gregorian chant. Written for the Tartu Young Composers Festival, only the first movement of "Montes Gelboe" will be premiered on March 20 by Cyberstudio and ensemble Vox Clamantis. The entire work will have a premiere at Kaumann's composer recital on June 16, 2007 in Tartu St John Church. Beside new works the programme of the concert on March 20 includes "Lost word" for tenor, cello, electronics and video by Mart Siimer and "Further shore, rain, silence" for ensemble, electronics and video by Toivo Tulev.

Founded in 2000 by Monika Mattiesen, ensemble Cyberstudio has been committed to the creation of artistic syntheses of Estonian acoustic and electro-acoustic music with other fields of modern art including light design, video, painting, dance and film. Performing on March 20 Cyberstudio's staff includes Monika Mattiesen (flute), Margo Kõlar (electronics), Priit Aimla and Taavi Kuntu (trumpets), Edmunds Altmanis (clarinet), Aare Tammesalu (cello), Liis Jürgens (harp), Jaak Sooäär (electric guitar), Toivo Unt (double bass) and Madis Metsamart, Rein Roos, Anto Õnnis, Aleksandra Anstal and Terje Terasmaa (percussion). In addition, Raul Mikson will take part as a vocal soloist.

Stage production of the concert has been carried out in cooperation of Monika Mattiesen, Meelis Salujärv (video), Pärtel Talli (stage design), Kaido Mikk (light design) and Margo Kõlar (sound and live electronics). Concert belongs to Monika Mattiesen's doctoral degree programme. Event has been supported by Estonian Cultural Endowment, Tallinn Cultural Heritage Department, KUMU Art Museum and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and will be broadcasted by Estonian Klassikaraadio. The concert on March 20 as well as the following concerts of the Cyberstudio taking place in Estonia and abroad during this season will be recorded by Rühm Pluss Null under the direction of Eerik Norkroos for the DVD of Estonian multimedia works.
