Hans Hindpere 80

On March 18, Estonian composer Hans Hindpere will celebrate his 80th birthday. Hans Hindpere’s output consists of musical works for stage, vocal symphonic and symphonic music, choral works, solo songs, music for wind orchestras and incidental music. Popular songs and songs for children form a best-known part of his oeuvre - these have been performed at the national song celebrations and won composition contests.

Hans Hindpere studied music theory in Tallinn Music School and graduated from the Tallinn Conservatoire in Anatoli Garshnek’s composition class in 1963. Beside composing, Hans Hindpere is valued interpreter, ensemble leader and pedagogue. He has worked as a concertmaster in ESSR State Philharmony and theatre „Estonia”. He has been active as a pianist in ensembles „Elektron” and „Varioola”. Hindpere has accompanied soloists like Artur Rinne, Endel Pärn, Vladimir Sapozhnin, Kalmer Tennosaar, Uno Loop, Voldemar Kuslap, Väino Puura, Heli Lääts, Helgi Sallo, Heidi Tamme, Leida Sibul and many others. He has directed vocal ensembles „Meloodia”, „Karikakar” and „Vanad sõbrad” with whom he has performed in Poland, Germany, Yugoslavia and elsewhere. His long-time work as a pedagogue in Tallinn Pedagogical University in 1968-1998 also deserves a credit.
