Alte Oper Frankfurt portraits Erkki-Sven Tüür

In September, the work of Erkki-Sven Tüür will be presented in Germany, Frankfurt am Main. As usual, Alte Oper Frankfurt opens the season with a series of concerts under the headline "Auftakt", dedicated to two high calibre musicians – Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür and British cellist Steven Isserlis as this years's choice. From September 6 to 17, eight concerts with title "Erkki-Sven Tüür – a portrait of the composer" will take place in Old Opera House. Tüürs work will be performed by the violinist Carolin Widmann, hr-Sinfonieorchester with Paavo Järvi, Ensemble Modern with Olari Elts, Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie with Michael Sanderling, Frankfurter Museumsorchester with Shi-Yeoni and Junge Deutsche Philharmonie with Manfred Honecki.

On September 6 and 7, Evelin Glennie as a percussion soloist and hr-Sinfonieorchester conducted by Paavo Järvi perform Tüür's Symphony No. 4 ("Magma", 2002). Various other concert programs include such his works as "Fata Morgana" (2003) for piano trio (Ensemble Modern 12.09), "Oxymoron" (2003) for large ensemble (Ensemble Modern 12.09), "Aqua" (2003) for string orchestra (Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie 14.09), "Aditus" (2000/2002) for symphony orchestra (Junge Deutsche Philharmonie 16.09) and "Insula deserta" (1989) for string orchestra (Frankfurter Museumsorchester 16.09 ja 17.09). On September 15, the world premiere of Tüür's "Confession" commissioned by Alte Oper Frankfurt will be given by Carolin Widmann. This day also the symposium on Erkki-Sven Tüür's work will take place, German researchers Jörn Peter Hiekel, Hans-Klaus Jungheinrich, Hartmut Lück and Wolfgang Sandner (Germany), Finnish musicologist Tomi Mäkelä and Estonian Kerri Kotta participating as lecturers.
