X international new music festival NYYD ´07 will begin

October 12-21, international new music festival NYYD will take place for the 10th time in Tallinn. This year's main guests are composers Salvatore Sciarrino (Italy) and Mark-Anthony Turnage (Great Britain). With several performances of works by György Ligeti (including Requiem at the opening concert and “Atmosphères” at the final concert), the festival pays tribute to recently deceased composer. Festival NYYD presents the varied overview of contemporary music, brilliant performers and a number of premieres by Estonian composers.

At the opening concert on October 12 at 7 p.m in Estonia Concert Hall, new version of “La Sindone” by Arvo Pärt will be performed by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Tõnu Kaljuste. In addition, Ülo Krigul’s sound installation ““...Wachet auf...die Stimme” – Choralfantasie zum Gedenken György Ligeti” with hundred clocks will be exposed in the lobby.

The concert programme of Ensemble U: on October 14 at 7.30 p.m in Kanuti Guild Hall will present Tatjana Kozlova’s “Doors 2a” and premieres of “Fragmentized room” by Age Hirv and “When the buffalo went away” by Märt-Matis Lill.

On October 17 at 9 p.m, string quartet TetrArchi staffed by young Estonian musicians will give a concert in Tallinn Ukrainian Church, playing "Air" by Malle Maltis.

On October 18 at 7 p.m in Estonia Concert Hall, Helena Tulve’s “Stream” and Ülo Krigul’s "earth...to become earth again" (premiere) will be performed by Swiss ensemble Phoenix, conductor Jürg Henneberger.

On October 20 at 4 p.m in Tallinn Art Hall, the concert of Electronic Music Studio of EAMT will present new works by Hans-Gunter Lock, Gerhard Lock, Liisa Hirsch, Liis Jürgens, Mirjam Tally, Diana Kiivit and Agata Krawczyk. The same day, at 7.30 p.m in Kanuti Guild Hall, French ensemble 2e2m (conductor Pierre Roullier) will premiere the “Early music” by Toivo Tulev.

At the final concert on October 21 at 7 p.m in Estonia Concert Hall, the premiere of Helena Tulve’s orchestral piece “extinction des choses vues” and Estonian premiere of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s “Prophecy” for accordion and symphony orchestra will take place, performed by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, conductor Olari Elts and accordionist Mika Väyrynen (Finland).

Festival’s artictic directors are Erkki-Sven Tüür, Olari Elts and Madis Kolk.
