New work by Malle Maltis from The Letmark Quartet

Tallinn Philharmony’s concert series “Diplomatic notes” brings The Letmark Quartet to Estonia with the concert titled as “Magic Cauldron” that includes premiere of Malle Maltis’s “Tilbageblik/Tagasivaated” [“Retrospects”] for two violins, clarinet and piano. Maltis’s new piece deals with retrospects to last summer – the basis of the work is poetry written by composer herself about daily news from 10th July. Four-part piece is significantly influenced by Henning Bendtsen’s photos.

The Letmark Quartet is Danish professional quartet staffed by Kuno Kjærbye (violin), Denis Mitrokhin (violin), Kirsten Karlshøj (piano, live-electronics) and Christian Larsen (clarinet). Ensemble has commissioned and performed music by many composers from Northern and Baltic countries. In addition to Maltis’s quartet, the concert programme in Estonia includes also music by Mozart, Schnittke and Kjærbye. Along with music, the photo composition by Danish cinematographer Henning Bendtsen will be shown on the screen.

“Magic Cauldron” will take place on October 24 at 7 p.m. at Pärnu Endla Theatre, October 26 at 7 p.m. at Black Hall of Viljandi Culture Academy and October 27 at 7.30 p.m. at Tallinn Kanuti Guild Hall.
