Composer Ülo Krigul and music teacher Vivian Tordik are laureates of the Heino Eller Music Prize 2006

The laureates of the Heino Eller Music Prize 2006 have been announced on March 1: Ülo Krigul received the young composer prize for his recent years' chamber and symphonic works (incl. the Europäische Komponistenpreis 2005 at the young.euro.classic festival in Berlin); Vivian Tordik, teacher of the Heino Eller Music School in Tartu, received the prize for yearlong research of the Eller's legacy and organising the Heino Eller Music Days in Tartu.

The prizes will be awarded to the laureates on March 7, Heino Eller's birthday in the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum. Heino Eller's works and music by Ülo Krigul will be performed by students of the Tallinn Music High School.

The Estonian Theatre and Music Museum has been awarding the Heino Eller prize (15 000 EEK) since 1998. This year the winners are selected by a jury of seven members: Olav Ehala (Chairman of the Estonian Composers' Union), Peep Lassmann (President of the Estonian Music Council, Rector of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre), Kadri Leivategija (Director of the Heino Eller Music School in Tartu), Piret Lindpere (Adviser of Fine Arts of the Estonian Ministery of Culture), Alo Põldmäe (Head of the Music Department of the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum), Ülle Reimets (Director of the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum) and Toomas Siitan (Professor of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Chairman of the Estonian Musicological Society).
