Estonian musicians awarded by BBC Music Magazine

The winners of the classical music CD awards were announced by prestigious BBC Music Magazine on March 15. Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Male Choir and girls’ choir Ellerhein were awarded for the CD „Peer Gynt”.

The CD „Peer Gynt” was recorded by Virgin Classics and chosen as the best in the category of orchestral music. Previously, the CD was highly acclaimed also in New York Times, Gramophone and Billboard.

"„Järvi brings true theatrical excitement, heartfelt melodic warmth and a grainy, flavoursome feeling for the folk elements," the jury’s judgement summarizes Paavo Järvi’s Grieg interpretation. Besides the opinion of the jury, readers’ votes were taken into account in the final decisions. CD „Peer Gynt” was recorded in Estonia Concert Hall, Tallinn, Estonia; the sound engineer was Maido Maadik.

In 2004, Girls' Choir Ellerhein, Estonian National Male Choir, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and Paavo Järvi won the Grammy Award for the CD "Sibelius. Cantatas" (Virgin Classics, 2003) in the category of best choral performance.
