New saxophone work of Tõnu Kõrvits at Tallinn Town Hall

On September 7, a new work “Laulan üle merede” (“„Singing over the sea“”) for saxophone solo by Estonian composer Tõnu Kõrvits will be premiered at Tallinn Town Hall. The new work is dedicated to the birthday of Virgo Veldi, a noted Estonian saxophonist.

The same instrument has an important role in some other works of Kõrvits: “…in these gardens” for saxophone and string orchestra (2004), “The source” for vibraphone and alto saxophone (2000), “Assignation” for saxophone quartet (1999), “The detached bridge” for saxophone quartet and chamber orchestra (1998), a.o.

At the concert in Tallinn Town Hall flutist Karoliina Leedo and pianist Ave Kruup will perform along with Virgo Veldi. In addition to the new work by Tõnu Kõrvits also Cuban, French and Italian chamber music will be played.
