Margo Kõlar’s author concert at the KUMU Art Museum

As a concert from the series „KuMu KUMUs” (“Art and Music in Art Museum”), the recital of composer Margo Kõlar will take place in Kumu Art Museum on October 17. The programme of the evening includes the premiere of Kõlar’s „Jacob’s Vision” (2006; lyrics from folklore) for soloist, synthesizer, harp, vibraphone and bass guitar and several arrangements: „Cross-stitch” (2001/2006) for two percussions and synthesizer, „For Marta” and „Boogeyman’s room” (2006) for tow percussions and piano (arrangements of piano pieces from 2003) and „Evening story” (2006) for three singers, nyckelharpa, vibraphone, marimba, harp and flute. From earlier work also “Night” (1998; lyrics by Indrek Hirv) for soprano and guitar and “Tandaradei” (2005; lyrics by Walther von der Vogelweide) for counter tenor, harp, flute and electronics will be performed.

Margo Kõlar (1961) has graduated from the Tallinn Conservatoire and obtained doctor’s degree at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in 2006. Today he is head of the Electronic Music Studio and Professor of the Composition Department of the Academy. Since 1996 Kõlar is also Artistic Director of the vocal ensemble “Heinavanker” („Haywain”). In the output of Kõlar lyricism and humour are combined with rich sound imagination.

As members of the ensemble „Heinavanker” Kadri Hunt and Taniel Kirikal (song), Anto Õnnis and Vambola Krigul (percussion) and Margo Kõlar (electronics and sound) will perform at the Kõlar’s author evening. Tui Hirv (song) Johan-Eerik Kõlar (piano, synthesizer), Janno Pokk (nyckelharp), Liisa Hirsch (synthesizer), Liis Jürgens (harp), Monika Mattiesen (flute), Jüri Vaino (guitar, bass guitar), Kaido Mikk (light) and conductor Mikhail Gertz will participate as guest performers. Concert is organised by the Estonian Performers Association.
