Toivo Tulev’s composer recital in Tallinn Niguliste Church

On November 11, the author evening of Toivo Tulev with Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir takes place in Tallinn Niguliste Church. Tulev is a noted Estonian composer whose music is fulfilled with spiritual and metaphysical sense of being. His musical idiom has been influenced by deep interest in Gregorian chant. Twice, for 2001 and 2003, Toivo Tulev has been awarded the Annual Prize of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. In 2006, he got the Estonian Music Council’s Music Prize for distinguished creative achievements. In season 2004/2005, he was composer in residence at the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

The programme of Tulev’s composer recital includes „Der Herr ist mein getreuer Hirt I” (2003) for counter tenor, violin and piano, „Songs” for 3 vocal groups, 3 instrumental groups and soloists (2005), „Leave, Alas, This Tormenting” for soprano, vocal quartet and percussions (2005), „Jusquez au printemps” for mixed choir (2005), „Der Herr ist mein getreuer Hirt II” for choir, violin, piano and strings (2003). The same programme will be recorded and the CD released by the French label “Harmonia Mundi” – Tulev’s first author’s CD produced by internationally renowned record company.

The performers of the author evening are Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra conducted by Paul Hillier, and soloists – soprano Kädy Plaas, counter tenor Robin Blaze and tenor Mati Turi.
