Urmas Sisask’s choir opera Labyrinth or Saints of Estonia

On June 15 at 7 pm, Urmas Sisask’s choir opera Labyrinth or Saints of Estonia, Op. 129 will be premiered in Tallinn St. John’s Church. Opera is written on Ilja Nikiforov’s libretto (translated to Estonian by Loone Ots) and tells about the history and secrets of Tallinn, goodness and evil in human soul, temptations and absolution. Characters are saints whose life was connected to Tallinn and Estonia, scene is a labyrinth of souls and streets of Tallinn Old Town. Music origins from Sisask’s earlier popular works.

Opera will be performed by vocal ensemble Orthodox Singers, Yuri Monchak (bass) and Natalia Biryukova (mezzo soprano) – soloists of St Petersburg Mikhailovski Theatre, string ensemble, church bell ensemble „Bells of Russia“ (artistic director Galina Filimonova, Russia), Igor Jermakov (Russian concertina). Conductor is Valeri Petrov – artistic director of „Orthodox Singers”.
