Laine Mets' solo CD with Estonian piano music

On December 22, a presentation of a new CD with Estonian piano music took pace in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. In cooperation of Estonian Radio and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre a solo CD of Laine Mets was released, including piano works by Rudolf Tobias (1873–1918), Heino Eller (1887–1970), Eduard Tubin 1905–1982), Artur Lemba (1885–1963) and Ester Mägi (b. 1922).

Laine Mets (1921), today Professor Emeritus of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, has been active in Estonian music scene more than half of a century. In 1953, she became a teacher at the Tallinn State Conservatoire, in 1981 she was appointed as a Professor. Ivari Ilja, Nata-Ly Sakkos, Reinut Tepp, Piia Paemurru and many others have been her students. Since 1948 Laine Mets started her concert career. Beside works of 17th century French harpsichordists, Béla Bartók and Olivier Messiaen, Estonian piano music holds an important place in her multifaceted repertoire. Laine Mets has performed piano works by Rudolf Tobias, Artur Lemba, Veljo Tormis, Heino Eller and many other Estonian composers. She has also performed and recorded a majority of Eduard Tubin’s piano music.
The solo CD of Laine Mets includes Sonatina (1912?) by Rudolf Tobias, Suite on Estonian Sheperd Melodies (1959) by Eduard Tubin, Concerto for piano and symphony orchestra (1953) by Ester Mägi and piano pieces by Artur Lemba and Heino Eller. Recordings from the sound archive of Estonian Radio have been used.
