New CD with Estonian music

In October 2005, Tallinn String Quartet released a new CD with Estonian music created prevalently on the last decade. In addition to the Two Small Quartets (1965) by Kuldar Sink (work already belonging to the treasure box of Estonian classical music), the CD includes “Metamorphoses” (1994/2002) by Alo Põldmäe, Quartet (1994) by Mari Vihmand, “Psalom” (1985/1997) by Arvo Pärt and “Neither This Nor the Further Shore” (2002) for string quartet and pre-recorded tape by Toivo Tulev.

Tallinn String Quartet celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2004, being one of the most long-term chamber ensembles and the only one still regularly performing in Estonia since 1984. At the present, the musicians of the quartet are Urmas Vulp (1st violin), Olga Voronova (2nd violin), Toomas Nestor (viola) and Henry-David Varema (cello).

Estonian music has gained the remarkable position in the programmes of the Tallinn String Quartet. In addition to the latest CD, the quartet has recorded four more CD-s, two of which (string quartets of Rudolf Tobias, 1995; works for string quartet by Erkki-Sven Tüür, Eduard Tubin and Arvo Pärt, 1993) were released under the Swedish label BIS.
