Veljo Tormis Runo Song Centre was opened at Estonian Academy of Music on the 17th of October 2005. The centre, founded at the musicology faculty of Academy, concentrates on the research and recreation of historical ways of interpretation of runo songs. In addition of centring the folk music studies at Estonian Academy of Music, the centre, under the guidance of Veljo Tormis, starts to organise the practical series of runo song interpretation courses “Regituba” (the Runo Room) both for students and music lovers all over Estonia. The activities of the centre will also focus on other fields of traditional folk music.
