“Baltic Voices 3” – new CD by Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir

On the 19th of October 2005, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir presented its new CD “Baltic Voices 3” at Tallinn Art Hall. The recording is made in collaboration with Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and under the label of Harmonia Mundi. By the selection of the conductor and artistic director of the EPCC Paul Hillier, the CD presents the compositions of Erkki-Sven Tüür, Danish composer Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, Finnish composers Kaija Saariaho and Erik Bergman and Polish composer Henryk Mikolaj Górecki.

We can already enjoy the positive feedback to the recording. The editor in chief of the reputable Internet magazine Classics Today, Mr David Vernier has said, that regardless of the fact that the programme of “Baltic Voices 3” “doesn't promise a relaxing listening experience” and “seriously tries the attention and perhaps the patience even of experienced listeners”, it makes sense as a non-familiar. Vernier also praises the choir for extraordinary vocal ensemble technique and particular proficiency in new music.

“Baltic Voices 3” continues the CD series of EPCC concentrating on the introduction of composers of the countries nearby the Baltic Sea. The series have presented the recording with the music of Veljo Tormis, Arvo Pärt, Peteris Vasks, Sven-David Sandström, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Cyrillus Kreek (“Baltic Voices 1”, 2003) and music by Urmas Sisask, Toivo Tulev, Gunnar Eriksson, Galina Grigorjeva and Alfred Schnittke (“Baltic Voices 2”, 2004). Both CDs have been nominated for Grammy Award.
