Chamber ensemble piece by Jaan Rääts at season closing concert of Tallinn Philharmonic Society

On May 27, Tallinn Philharmonic Society will close its 2010/2011 concert season with concert at Tallinn Methodist Church at 7 pm. Tallinn Chamber Orchestra under the guidance of Russian conductor Stanislav Kotshanovski will perform program consisting of Estonian contemporary music and German late Romanticism.

The opening piece of the concert will be four-part Nonet, Op. 29 (1967) for wind quintet and violin, viola, cello and double bass by Jaan Rääts played by chamber ensemble of Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. This neoclassical work was commissioned by nonet from Rostock but received its world premiere performance by Estonian musicians in Rostock in 1969. Estonian premiere of the Nonet took place in the same year in Tallinn performed also by chamber ensemble of Tallinn Chamber Orchestra with Eri Klas conducting.

The season closing concert will also feature Gustav Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, arranged for chamber orchestra by Arnold Schönberg. The soloists will be mezzo soprano Annely Peebo and tenor Mati Turi.
