Mirjam Tally’s orchestral work Eclipse to be premiered

On May 12, Mirjam Tally’s orchestral work Eclipse will be premiered in Uppsala, Sweden. 15-minute piece commissioned by Uppsala Chamber Orchestra prefigure the pictures of nature: early hour before the sunrise, sounds of birds and animals in the jungle, increasingly appearing light expands to the sunrise. New work will be performed by Uppsala Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Estonian Paul Mägi – orchestra’s artistic director and conductor since 2004.

Into the concert program Romantic Spring Evening there have been selected national romantic pieces: Edvard Grieg’s (1843–1907) Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Wilhelm Stenhammar’s (1871–1927) Two Sentimental Romances (violin soloist Bernt Lysell) and Jean Sibelius’s (1865–1957) Symphony No. 7.

Concert at orchestra’s home, Uppsala Konsert & Kongress, will take place on May at 7 pm. Concert is organised by Musik i Uppland.

Mirjam Tally (1976) has graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music as a student of Lepo Sumera in 2000 and obtained the master degree in 2003. From 2006, Tally lives on the island of Gotland and is also a member of the Society of Swedish Composers. Her earlier works are mainly for chamber ensembles and electronics. Tally was one of the pioneers to use Estonian folk instrument kannel in art music – peculiarity that widened to other exotic instruments as well. In recent years, importance of orchestral music has increased in her oeuvre. Turbulence (2006) has gained several international recognitions. Density (2010) was premiered as a commissioned work of Swedish Radio in March in Stockholm. Composer with a high international fly recently represented Sweden at the ISCM World Music Days in Zagreb. Tally’s music is full of playing with sounds, where humorous, dramatic and poetic imagery are mixed.
