Kalev Kuljus will perform with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mikk Murdvee

On May 6 at 7 pm, the principal oboist of NDR Sinfonieorchester in Hamburg Kalev Kuljus will perform with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra at Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn. Orchestra will be conducted by Mikk Murdvee who made his successful debut with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra in March 2010. The program consists of Richard Struass’s Symphonic Poem Till Eulenspiegel and Oboe Concerto in D major and Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.

Kalev Kuljus has studied oboe at the Estonian Academy of Music (with Heldur Värv, Andres Siitan and Olev Ainomäe), Lyon National Conservatory (with Jean-Christophe Gayot and Guy Laroche) and Music University Karlsruhe (with Thomas Indermühle). He has participated in the master classes of Aale Lindgren, Georg Meerwein, Lajos Lencsés, Hansjörg Schellenberger, Maurice Bourgue, Stefan Schill and Jacques Tys and has been a winner of several contests. In addition to Estonian Orchestras, Kuljus has also played with the number of foreign orchestras and ensembles. Since 2003, he is the oboe soloist of the NDR Sinfonieorchester and the first principal guest oboist of the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in England.

Violinist and conductor Mikk Murdvee graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Sibelius Academy in Finland in the violin class of Mari Tampere. He also studied conducting at Sibelius Academy under Leif Segerstam, Atso Almila, Jorma Panula et al. Murdvee has participated in the violin master classes of Yair Kless, Igor Bezrodny, Anatoli Reznikovsky and many others and has gained recognition at several competitions, both national and international. As a conductor Murdvee has worked with many orchestras in Estonian, Finland and London. Since 2007, he works as the principal conductor of Helsinki University orchestra Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat. Besides being a conductor, Murdvee continues his career as a violinist (soloist, chamber musician, concert master).
