The world’s finest vocal ensembles Theatre of Voices will premiere a new work from Helena Tulve at Kings Place in London.

Theatre of Voices will present some of the new vocal chamber music to come out of the Baltic States on September 27 at Kings Place in London. The programme includes newly-commissioned work „The Narrow Road to the Deep North“ from Helena Tulve, based on Japanese poet Matsuo Basho’s text.

Other works in the programme include Veljo Tormis’s „The Bishop and the Pagan“, Arvo Pärt’s „Da pacem“ and „Virgencita“, Galina Grigorjeva’s „O Virgin Theotikos“ from „Vespers“ and „Lament“ (for recorder), and Peteris Vasks’ „Window“ and „Encounter“ from „Three Poems by Czeslaw Milosz“.

Theatre of Voices will be conducted by its artistic director Paul Hillier. Michala Petri (recorder) and Ying-Hsueh Chen (percussion) will join the concert as the guest artists.

Theatre Of Voices was founded in London in 1990 by Paul Hillier and its main focus nowadays is on new music, though very often interwoven with various kinds of early music, reflecting Hillier’s lifelong devotion to these two ends of the musical spectrum.
