Lauri Väinmaa 50

In November, three concerts will take place in Pärnu, Tartu and Tallinn to celebrate the 50th birthday of recognized pianist and teacher Lauri Väinmaa.

Today, on November 10 Lauri Väinmaa will perform with Pärnu City Orchestra and conductor Jüri Alperten. The program consists of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 5 and Symphony No 2.
On November 13 and 23, Väinmaa will give two recitals with music by Arvo Pärt, Ferenc Liszt and Beethoven. The concerts will take place at Tartu University Hall and Estonia Concert Hall.

Since 1987, Lauri Väinmaa has worked at the piano department of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and since 2000 at the Ammattikorkeakoulu in Tampere. He is the founder and the artistic director of the international pianists’ festival „The Piano“, taking place in Tallinn. Lauri Väinmaa’s repertoire includes all the piano works by Beethoven as well as music from Johann Sebastian Bach to Schnittke, with preference to Liszt, Brahms and Prokofiev. He has performed all the piano works of the Second Viennese School, the piano etudes of György Ligeti and all the piano compositions of Arvo Pärt and Alfred Schnittke.
