Concert “Margo Kõlar 50”

At the composer’s jubilee concert, his music from 1980ies to this day will be presented. From amongst earlier works, Sonata with Gong Strike (1984/2011) for percussion and chamber orchestra and Magic Land (1987) for voice and orchestra are in the program. Latter works are represented by Your Heart (2011) for vocal ensemble, percussion, guitar and chamber orchestra and Jesus’s Ride (2010) for vocal ensemble.

Kõlar’s music will be performed by Tallinna Chamber Orchestra, conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, vocal ensemble Heinavanker, Gregorian ensemble Vox Ensemble, percussion ensemble PaukenfEst, chamber ensemble Resonabilis and a lot of other guests: Oksana Sinkova (flute), Riivo Kallasmaa (oboe), Helena Tuuling (clarinet), Kadri-Ann Suss (bassoon), Liis Viira (harp), Piia Paemurru (piano), Kadri Hunt (voice), Johan-Eerk Kõlar (piano), Taavo Remmel (bass), Paul Daniel (guitar), Taniel Kirikal (counter tenor), Janno Pokk (nyckelharpa), Pill-Rite Rei (alto saxophone, voice, piano), Kaia Urb (soprano).

Sound experiments, humour and a playful relationship to musical material characterize the better part of Margo Kõlar’s work. Kõlar’s oeuvre includes almost all genres from large-scale works and songs to electronic works – the most significant field of his creation. Poetical and sacred vocal works – choir and solo songs – form an alternative side of his production. Kõlar graduated Tallinn State Conservatory in composition under Eino Tamberg in 1986. In 1999, he obtained master degree in Estonian Academy of Music and 2006 took the doctor’s degree at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. From 1999 he is the docent and director of the electronic music studio of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Concert will take place on October 6 at 7 pm on Tallinn House of Brotherhood of Black Heads.
