Estonian music and musicians at the Baltic Sea Festival

On August 27, inauguration concert of Baltic Sea Festival in Sweden will be given by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Latvian Radio Choir, Estonian National Male Choir and Lithuanian girls’ choir Liepaites under the baton of Tõnu Kaljuste. The program includes Arvo Pärt’s “In principio” (2003) for mixed choir and symphony orchestra as well as Veljo Tormis’s “Three I had those words of beauty”. Also Pēteris Vasks’s, Ludwig van Beethoven’s and Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis’s music will be performed.

On August 28, Kaljuste will conduct Swedish National Youth Orchestra, performing Pärt’s Symphony No. 3. Conductor Kristjan Järvi will give a concert with Baltic Youth Philharmonic on September 2, having Eduard Tubin’s Setu Dance from Suite on Estonian Dances in the program. Concerts will be broadcasted live on Swedish Radio P2.

Classical music festival of Baltic Sea area is focused on music and environment and is organised by Swedish Radio. Concerts will take place at the famous Berwald Concert Hall – home of Swedish Radio Orchestra and Choir. This year’s festival is part of the official program of The Baltic Year in Sweden. The ninth Baltic Sea Festival takes place from August 27 to September 2. Among others the performers are soloists, choir and orchestra of Mariinsky Theatre (conductor Valeri Gergiev), Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir (conductors Daniel Hardingi, Peter Dijkstra and Esa-Pekka Salonen), I, Culture Orchestra and several vocal and instrumental soloists.
