Lydia Rahula

Choral conductor Lydia Rahula graduated from the Tallinn Pedagogical University in 1973 under the guidance of Heino Kaljuste and Ants Sööt. She has improved her skills by taking part in different international courses in Finland, Denmark, Great Britain, Gremany etc.

Since 1980, Lydia Rahula has worked as a music teacher in Tallinn School No 21. List of her students includes Lauri Liiv, Rauno Tagel, Toomas Tohert, Koit Toome, Kelli Uustani.

In 1988, she founded the Tallinn Boys’ Choir, a conductor and the artistic director of which she has been since then.

From the year 1987, she has actively participated in Estonian Song Celebrations in Tallinn and Tartu. In 2003, she formed nationwide Estonian Children’s Choir.

Lydia Rahula has been awarded with the fifth class White Star Order of the Republic of Estonia. In 1994, she was given the honorary title Best Teacher of the Year. In 1997, she received the Annual Prize of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, and in 2002, the Riho Päts Music Education Award.
