Mikk Langeproon

Mikk Langeproon started playing the accordion at the age of eight. He began his studies in Tallinn Music School under Igor Jõeleht and Kristel Laas. After that he continued his studies in Georg Ots Tallinn Music College in Tiina Välja’s accordion class. Langeproon holds both Bachelor’s Degree (2017) and Master’s Degree (2019) from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he studied with Prof. Matti Rantanen. In 2017–2018 he mastered his skills at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz under Prof. Janne Rättyä.

Mikk Langeproon has participated successfully in various competitions in Estonia and abroad. He has won the first prize in the older age category at the Estonian Young Accordionist Competition, organised by the Tallinn Music High School, Georg Ots Tallinn Music College, and Heino Eller Tartu Music College (2014). He has received a diploma (2011) and won the second prize (2013) at the Vilnius Accordion Competition. He was also awarded a diploma at the accordion competition in Pula, Croatia (2014). In 2011, Langeproon was recognised as the best instrumentalist of the Tallinn Music School and in 2012, 2013 and in 2014 as the most outstanding student of the accordion department of Georg Ots Tallinn Music College. He holds the title of Maxima Future Talent (2013) as well as the title of Musician of the Year of Viimsi Parish (2016). Langeproon gained wider recognition in 2016 while he participated in the Estonian TV competition „Classical Stars“ („Klassikatähed“) for young classical artists, organised by the Estonian National Broadcasting. In 2017, Langeproon took part in the competition „Young Composer“, where his work for accordion and bassoon reached to the final round.

Langeproon has worked hard to increase the relevance of the accordion as a classical instrument, by performing in Estonia, Finland, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Germany, Austria, Croatia, and China.

In 2020 Mikk Langeproon premiered Concerto for Accordion and Chamber Orchestra by Tauno Aints with Helsinki Chamber Orchestra and James Salomon Kahane conducting at the Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki.

Mikk Langeproon is the member of the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians and since 2019 the board member of the Estonian Accordion Association.
