Tõnu Reimann

Tõnu Reimann graduated from Tallinn Music High School in 1970 and from Tallinn State Conservatoire (later Estonian Music and Theatre Academy) under the guidance of Herbert Laane. In 1971–1974 Tõnu Reimann continued postgraduate studies at Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory with Galina Barinova.

In 1970–1977 Tõnu Reimann worked at Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra and  1974–1977 as a violin teacher at Tallinn Music High School. Since 1977 Tõnu Reimann works at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (since 2004 professor). In 1989–2008 Reimann was pedagogue and head of string department at Pori Palmgren-Konservatorio. Since 2004 Tõnu Reimann is also head of the  Institute of Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Reimann´s students include among others Elar Kuiv, Andres Leivategija, Marika Vihermäe, Mari Aasa, Kristiina Olev, Arne Pilliroog etc.

Tõnu Reimann has given recitals since 1970 as a soloist and chamber musician in Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, and Finland. Reimann's long-time ensemble partners have been his brother, pianist Matti Reimann and organist Rolf Uusväli, also guitarist Andrei Garin (Moscow). Tõnu Reiman has cooperated with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and performed violin concertos by Jean Sibelius, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Villem Reimann, Boris Kõrver and Eugen Kapp cooperating with renowned conductors as Neeme Järvi, Eri Klas and Roman Matsov. Tõnu Reimann has made recordings for Estonian Radio, his interpretation has released on several collection CD-s, in 1997 was released CD „Pastoraali“ (with an organist Anne-Marie Grundstén and soprano Raisa Vaarna). Tõnu Reimann has given several lecture-concerts with Matti Reimann and also participated at telecasts including 26-part television series „Pildid näituselt“ („Pictures at an Exhibition“). In 1994 Tõnu Reimann founded festival „Viiulimängud“ in Haapsalu and was artistic director of the festival until 2008. In 1993–1999 Reimann directed musical part of the festival „Elava mere päevad“ in Finland. In addition, Reimann has written study materials including „Interpretatsioonipedagoogika probleemid" III („Problems of Interpretation Pedagogy" III) as a cooperation with Maris Valk-Falk in 2006 and IV as a cooperation with Mirjam Kerem in 2011. In 2009 "Herbert Laan 100" was published by Tõnu Reimann's compilation.
