Ville-Markus Kell

Composer and pedagogue Ville-Markus Kell has graduated from the Tallinn Music High School in music theory in 1978 and from the Tallinn State Conservatory, where he had studied composition with Lepo Sumera, in 1983.

Kell has worked as a sound engineer in Estonian Radio (1980–1984), as a teacher at  Nõmme Children’s Music School (1983–1985), at the Tallinn Music High School (1987–1989), Raasiku Elementary School (2003–2004), Lasila and Võsu Elementary Schools (2004–2005). He has been a concert master of the Tallinn Polytechnical Institute Student Club (1987–1989), director of Mixed Choir of Estonian Radio (1989–1993), project manager of Orkester Akademie Hamburg (1989), director of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (1994–1998), director of Kõrvemaa Music School (1999–2001) and the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School (2001–2003), manager of Loksa Culture Centre (2004–2005), director of Väike-Maarja borough people’s club (2005–2011) and since 2012, director of Mustvee Culture Centre.

Kell’s oeuvre includes two symphonies, instrumental concerts, two saxophone quartets, trombone quartet, vocal chamber music and choral songs. His works have been performed by Youth Philharmony, Jaan Tamm Quintet, pianists Risto Laur and Marrit Gerretz. His music has been presented at the Estonian Music Days.
