Piret Pajusaar

Piret Pajusaar started her composition studies in 2010 in Georg Ots Tallinn Music School under the guidance of Kristo Matson and Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes and continued in the class of Tõnu Kõrvits at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre which she graduated from in 2017. Her creative life has been affected also by longtime violin studies in Nõmme Music School as well as pop-jazz violin studies in Georg Ots Tallinn Music School from 2013–2016 (tutor Mart Soo).

Piret Pajusaar describes her music as a journey towards her own musical voice: „I have searched and experimented, added the elements of popular music to contemporary classical music and vice versa. I have always been fascinated by rhythms, latterly repeating meditative rhythm patterns. Here I have followed the example of King Crimson and Nik Bärtsch. Also vigor, mystery and spelling peculiar to folk music are dear to me. I highly value composers like Ester Mägi, Veljo Tormis and Tõnu Kõrvits in whose works one can feel naturalness and sincerity as in folk tunes.“ Pajusaar has written music for voice, solo instruments, chamber ensembles, choirs, orchestras. Since 2018, Pire Pajusaar is the leader, singer and keyboard player of the exprimental ensemble Stressipank.
