Raivo Kõrgemägi

b. March 29, 1944 Ambla

Music teacher, choral conductor and composer.

Kõrgemägi studied choral conducting in Tallinn Music School in Laine Karindi’s class (1962–1963) and graduated from the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute in music pedagogics in 1971, as well as youth seminar of Estonian Composers’ Union (supervisors Veljo Tormis and Heino Jürisalu). For a long time (1971–1991) he worked in Tallinn Music High School as solfeggio teacher and conductor of children’s choir. From 1991–2011, Kõrgemägi worked in Finland, Pihtipudas Community College as music teacher and choral conductor.

Raivo Kõrgemägi has written over 300 children’s songs and over 50 choral songs, many of them have gained a wide popularity. Children’s songs have been frequently performed at children singing competitions, they are published in many songbooks and music schoolbooks. Several of them have been performed at the national song celebrations ("My Estonia", "The Power of Day" ,"Boys of Our Camp", "Let Songs Come Along", "Lark", "Children Came", "When the Spirit is Enjoyable").

Songs of Raivo Kõrgemägi have been published in 14 author compendiums.
