Festival TubIN in Tartu

From October 7–10, the first Tubin Festival will take place in Tartu under the leadership of conductor Mihhail Gerts. Dedicated to Estonia's greatest symphonist Eduard Tubin, the festival focuses on the music created by composer during his time spent in Tartu, also on the work of Tubin’s fellow student Eduard Oja and their mutual teacher Heino Eller. Tubin's 3rd and 4th symphonies, piano quartet and solo songs will be performed. Program also includes works by Prokofiev, Kodály and Bartók.

The concerts of the festival will take place in the Tubin Hall of the Heino Eller Music School and in the Vanemuine Concert Hall. Performers are Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Male Choir, Indrek Leivategija (cello), String Quartet M4GNET, Karmen Puis (soprano), Jaanika Rand-Sirp (piano), Piano Duo Ebe Müntel - Jorma Toots, Heigo Rosin and Brita Reinmann (percussion).

In addition to the concerts, there will be a cultural walk “From Tobias to Tubin” led by Enn Lillemets, where people will travel by foot and by bus in the footsteps of outstanding cultural figures of Tartu.

Festival takes place in collaboration with the Eesti Kontsert, Vanemuine Theater and Heino Eller Music School. The artistic director of the festival is Mihhail Gerts.
