Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir’s concert season begins with new chief conductor

Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir’s opening concerts of the new season will take place on September 11 in Rakvere and September 14 in Tallinn, under the direction of Dutch conductor Daniel Reuss who is the artistic director and chief conductor of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir since September 2008. Also Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will participate. The program consists of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Haydn and Arvo Pärt.

On September 11, Pärt’s „Magnificat” and Haydn’s Stabat Mater will be performed with soloists Kädy Plaas (soprano), Iris Oja (alto), Tuomas Katajala (tenor, Finland) and Uku Joller (bass) in Rakvere Church at 7 pm. The concert in Tallinn on September 14 in the United Methodist Church at 6 pm, offers Magnificat by Bach with soloists Kädy Plaas, Kaia Urb (soprano), Juta Roopalu-Malk (alto), Tuomas Katajala and Uku Joller and Stabat Mater by Haydn. The concerts are produced in cooperation with Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Tallinn Philharmonic Society.

Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will also perform the same program as in Tallinn within the St. Mary’s Song Festival on September 13 at 6 pm in Narva Alexander’s Cathedral.

Daniel Reuss has studied choral conducting at the Rotterdam Conservatory. He has been the chief conductor of Cappella Amsterdam and RIAS Kammerchor in Berlin. As a guest conductor, Reuss has conducted many outstanding European choirs and orchestras such as Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln, the Netherlands Radio Choir, Collegium Vocale Gent etc. He has also conducted at the English National Opera and collaborated with record company Harmonia Mundi.
