Estonian music festival in Tokyo

On November 10, festival dedicated to Estonian music takes place in Tokyo. One-day festival consists of two separate parts. First part is the the piano recital of Takahiro Akiba and Yuko Yoshioka who will play Eduard Tubin’s Ballade on a Theme of Mart Saar, Urmas Sisask’s Interlaced Galactic Fantasy in Four Parts from Starry Sky Cycle 2, Tõnu Kõrvits’s Winter Path and Song of Clouds and Ester Mägi’s Ancient Kannel (Japanese premieres of two latter ones). On the same day, Yuko Yoshioka will present her new CD “Urmas Sisask: Starry Sky Cycle” that consists Starry Sky Cycle No. 1 Northern Sky.

Concert is part of the Estonian Music Project – the endeavor initiated by Takahiro Akiba, the admirer of Estonian music. (Look the webpage of the project: Yuko Toshioka playing works of Sumera and Sisask.)

The second part is the live of Estonian young pop-singer Maarja-Liis Ilus with Japanese jazz-trio “Shina Makoto Trio”. Concerts are taking place in Shinjuku Cultural Center Recital Hall and are part of the “Baltic week in Tokyo”. The festival is organised by Japan-Estonia Friendship Society and supported by Estonian Embassy in Tokyo and EU-Japan fest.
