Erkki-Sven Tüür's Oboe Concerto "Desert Wind" will be premiered on November 14 and 15 in the Elbphilharmonie's Grand Hall in Hamburg. The soloist of the oboe concerto is Kalev Kuljus, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra is conducted by Paavo Järvi. In addition, the concert program includes Sergei Prokofiev's suite from the opera "The Love for Three Oranges", Op. 33a and Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 1.

According to the composer, in the way the desert winds shape sculptures from the cliffs over thousands of years, similarities can be found in the musical material of the oboe concerto – both in the dynamic between the soloist and the orchestra, and among the various instrument groups in the orchestra itself. The piece is a joint commission of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and the Estonian Festival Orchestra. In Estonia, the piece will be performed at the Pärnu Music Festival in the summer of 2025.

The Oboe Concerto is dedicated to Kalev Kuljus, who has been the principal oboist of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra since 2003.

The concert on November 15 will be broadcast live by NDR Kultur and Estonian Klassikaraadio.
