Erkki-Sven Tüür's album Awakening in Germany successful

German music journalist Burkhard Schäfer introduces his favorite records of the year 2011 in the Zeit magazine. The albums Grigorij Krein / Samuil Feinberg: Violinsonaten (Genuin classics), Sofia Gubaidulina: Fachwerk - Silenzio (Naxos) and Erkki-Sven Tüür's "Awakening" (Ondine) are amongst the three of the best records 2011.

Schäfer describes Tüür's Awakening as a catchy music for chorus and orchestra. The work is composed and premiered in frame of European Cultural Capital 2011 Tallinn and celebrates the 20th anniversary of restoration of Estonia's independence and the singing revolution. Schäfer says, Awakening is a politically and spiritually motivated work, which demonstrates the power of human voice.
In addition to Awakening, the CD includes works
The Wanderer's Evening Song (2001)
and Insula Deserta (1989). The music is performed by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Sinfonietta Riga, conducted by Daniel Reuss.
