Ensemble U: performs at the Latvian New Music Days Festival

Ensemble U:, the most active and renowned contemporary music ensemble in Estonia, will give tomorrow, on March 5, the online concert within the framework of the Latvian New Music Days. The 10th festival is held by the Latvian Composers’ Union and all its six concerts will be broadcast live from Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius. 13 new works by Latvian composers will get their world premiere performance.

Enesmble U: will stream a live concert on March 5 at 19 (local time). The program concists of „4’33” Fractals“ for any instrument (2000) by Udo Kasemets (1919–2014), Trio for ladder, mud and pebbles (1962) by Jurgis Mačiūnas (1931–1978), „Silhouettes. Behaviours“ for cello, piano and percussion (2015) by Linda Leimane (1989) and „Corners“ for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, percussion and electric guitars (2017) by Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes (1977).

Ensemble U: (Tarmo Johannes – flute, Helena Tuuling – clarinet, Merje Roomere – violin, Levi-Danel Mägila – cello, Vambola Krigul – percussion, Taavi Kerikmäe – piano) has gained recognition for its ability to perform even the most demanding works without conductor, openness for bold experimental ideas and sensitivity for sound. Next to Estonia U: has also performed in important international festivals, including Time of Music (Viitasaari, Finland), GAIDA (Vilnius, Lithuania), Sounds New (Canterbury, UK), Nordic Music Days (Helsinki, Finland), Nuova Consonanza (Rome, Italy), Third Practice (Richmond, USA) ,  Biennale di Musica Venezia (Italy), Virtuosi of XXI Century (Recife, Brasil), Dark Music Days (Iceland).
