Eero Liives

Eero Liives studied trumpet and violin in Narva Music School, violin in Tallinn Higher Music School in Johannes Paulsen’s class (1919–1920) and privately composition with Adolf Vedro. Liives was longtime violinist in Theatre Estonia Symphony Orchestra (1918–1965), formerly played violin in cinemas, cafes and operetta orchestra in Narva (1912–1916) as well as military orchestras in Petrograd (1916–1918). In addition to work in theatre, Liives was a music teacher in Tallinn Humanitarian Gymnasium for Boys for some years.

He has written about twenty orchestral works. The most popular of these are „Ceremonial march“ („Presidential march“, 1922)– the official greeting march of the President of the Republic of Estonia, „Dance of Fishermen“, „A Village Dance“ and „Eagle march“.
