Concerts „Source of Wisdom“ of chamber choir Voces Musicales


On May 18 and 19, chamber choir Voces Musicales will give two concerts entitled „Source of Wisdom“. Choral songs where composers has used folklore, religious and mythological texts will be performed under the guidance of young conductor Sander Tamm.

The program consists of „Singers’s Childhood“ by Veljo Tormis, „Salomon’s Proverbs“ by Raimo Kangro, „Source of Wisdom“ by Piret Risp-Laul, „Stat sua cuique dies“ by Sander Sokk and music by Hugo Wolf, Gustav Holst, Eric Whitacre, Z. Randall Stroop, Pierre Certon, Moses Hogan and R. C. Martin.

Concerts starting at 6 pm will be held on May 18 at St. John’s Church in Tartu and May 19 at St. Nicholas’s Church in Tallinn.

Sander Tamm graduated from the youth department of Tartu Heino Eller Music School as a flautist in 2009 and started to study choir conducting in the same school (teacher Lilyan Kaiv). In 2011, Sander graduated from Georg Ots Music School and acquired his conducting skills at high school level (teacher Peeter Perens). During the season of 2013/2014 Sander is the guest conductor of the Estonian National Male Choir.

Today Sander is the conductor of The Chamber Choir of Tallinn University, Virumaa Boys’ Choir and Tallinn University Women’s Choir. Also, he is currently acquiring a bachelor degree at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Professor Tõnu Kaljuste as his teacher. As a chorus master Sander Tamm has prepared a number of projects with Nargen Festival Choir, The Choir of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and The Eric Whitacre Project Choir.

Sander Tamm is also active as an organizer in various cultural projects. In addition to several important endeavors in the field of music he is responsible for organizing the most extensive and unusual project in Estonia. In spring 2013 Eric Whitacre, the world renowned composer visited the Baltic States and Estonia for the first time and the project was brought to life under Sander’s management. During Whitacre’s visit a master course for conductors and the author’s concert took place. The whole project was published in several radio programs and a television production „Eric Whitacre’s visit in Estonia and author’s concert” (ETV 2013) was filmed. Sander Tamm has also worked as a manager of the project „IT Song Festival” which was compiled in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. The aim of the project was to prepare training materials for the upcoming Song Festival.

Sander Tamm is valued as a singer in The Estonian National Opera Chorus, Estonian National Male Choir and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
