Concert series „Mozart & Pärt“ in Los Angeles



In the course of May, several concerts connected with the music of Arvo Pärt take place in Walt Disney Concert Hall, the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, four concerts will be given together with Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

On May 11, program „Philharmonia Baroque: Handel & Pärt“ presented music by Händel, Purcell and Arvo Pärt. San Francisco Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra was conducted by Nicholas McGegan, vocal soloists were Anne Sofie von Otter and Andreas Scholl.

From May 19 to 22, Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel appear on the stage, performing Arvo Pärt’s „Miserere“ and Mozart’s Requiem. Orchestra will perform together with Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Latvian Radio Choir and soloists Lucy Crowe (soprano), Isabel Leonard (mezzo soprano), Paul Appleby (tenor) and Luca Pisaroni (bass-baritone).

Arvo Pärt’s latest symphony No. 4 „Los Angeles“ can be listened at concerts titled as „The Angels“ on May 26 and 27. Program includes also Pärt’s „Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten“ and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17, K. 453 (soloist Inon Barnatan) as well as Bill Viola’s „Inverted Birth“.

On May 28, awaited event will take place – LA Phil will premiere Arvo Pärt’s new piece „Greater Antiphons“ (2015) for strings. It will be preceded by Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 and followed by Symphony No. 40. The same program will be repeated also on May 29.

Concert series will end in the evening of May 29 with the organ music by Mozart and Pärt. Performers are Aaron David Miller (organ), Damin Spritzer (organ), Vijay Gupta (violin), Jin-Shan Dai (violin) and Dahae Kim (cello).
