Choral and wind music prizes awarded


The Academic Women’s Choir of the University of Tartu and conductor Triin Koch

Yesterday, on January 26, the Estonian Choral Association announced the annual prizes of choral and wind music 2019. Annual awards were given out in a total of 12 categories, with 81 nominees contending for the prizes. The award ceremony were held at the Estonia Concert Hall.

The laureates of the Annual Prizes of the Estonian Choral Association are:

Choir of the Year 2019 – the Academic Women’s Choir of the University of Tartu (conductor Triin Koch) and women’s choir Vanaemad (conductors Silvia Mellik and Reet Ratassepp)
Wind Orchestra of the Year 2019 – the wind orchestra Saxon of the Estonian Defence League (conductors Kaido Kivi, Sigrid Hint and Kadri Põder)
Conductor of the Year 2019 – Triin Koch
Conductor-Music Teacher of the Year 2019 – Taavi Esko
Young Conductor of the Year 2019 – Ingrid Roose
Orchestra Conductor of the Year 2019 – Bert Langeler
Supporter of the Year 2019 – Andre Aavastik, Madis Millistvere and Co. (construction of the new conductor’s stand at the Song Festival Grounds)
Organiser of the Year 2019 – Ave Sopp and Margit Võsa
Deed of the Year 2019 – choir performance „Hakkame, mehed, minema“
Great Deed of the Year 2019 – 150th jubilee song and dance celebration „My Fatherland is My Love“ in Tallinn and Tartu Song Festival 2019
Cooperation Prize of the Year 2019 – Jorma Sarv
Choral Composer of the Year 2019 – Riho Esko Maimets
Choral Album of the Year 2019 – „A Black Birch in Winter“ by chamber choir Voces Musicales
