Karmen Rõivassepp Quartet at Nordischer Klang Festival

21.08.2021
Location: Greifswald, Germany
Time: 15:00

Large ensembles such as Danmarks Radio Big Band and the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra have also inspired Karmen Rõivassepp to give concerts with her as a soloist. Her quartet with Simon Gorm Eskildsen (piano), Adrian Christensen (bass) and Daniel Sommer (drums) interprets her own song compositions and classic jazz songs in a fresh sound and with a light-hearted, charming stage presence. Brazilian pieces are also part of their repertoire.

Karmen Rõivassepp was born in Estonia in 1993. There she grew up in a musical family where all the children learned to play the piano. In this way she became familiar with jazz harmony, which in turn inspired her virtuosity in scat singing. In 2012, she began her education at the Jutland Conservatory of Music in Århus. Her debut album "Dance of Sounds" was released in 2018 with songs in English and Estonian, which earned her a nomination in the "New Danish Jazz Artist" category at the Danish Music Awards Jazz in the same year. In 2019, she was named "Young Jazz Talent of the Year" in Estonia. A new CD release is forthcoming.

"The bandleader's vocals are striking in their purity, her range and her pitching impressive. And she's harmonically inventive when decorating melodies with intricate, scat-sung phrases [...]." (Thomas Rees, Downbeat Magazine, 2018)

The Karmen Rõivassepp Quartet plays at Nordischer Klang Festival in Greifswald (Germany) on August 21, at 3pm. All information about the festival is available on the festival website or as news on the social media channels Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and on the YouTube channel. On the festival's own spotify channel you can get a taste of the music programme of the festival edition.
