Tõnu Kõrvits (b. 1969). “silent songs” for bass clarinet and orchestra (2015, for Meelis Vind, premiere)
Jakob Juhkam. Electronic remix of Estonian symphonic works (2015, premiere)
The symphony concert of Estonian Music Days comes with surprises, anything but obvious soloists and most definitely catchy premieres. Canadian-born Estonian composer Riho Esko Maimets uses accordion as solo instrument, played by young virtuoso Henri Zibo. Organist Aare-Paul Lattik, mostly known for his interpretation of French music, will perform in the piece by Kristo Matson. Tõnu Kõrvits composed a piece for distinguished clarinet player Meelis Vind, who also recently wrote his first piece for the symphony orchestra. Apart from a new composition by Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes, we will hear Jakob Juhkam’s electronic remix of symphonic works. The concert will be conducted by Taavi Kull, for whom this concert will be a debut in front of Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. There will be announced awards for the best pieces of last year’s festival.
