The book gives an overview of Ester Mägi’s work by Evi Arujärv, an interview with composer by Tiia Järg, discography and bibliography. Compilator and editor is Evi Arujärv. The book includes also a CD with Mägi’s works, selected by composer herself. The publication is supported by Estonian Ministry of Culture and Cultural Endowment of Estonia.

Ester Mägi (1922), grand old lady in Estonian Music, has written almost hundred choral pieces, 50 solo songs and a number of ensemble works. Also Symphony, one of her few orchestral pieces, stands out as a remarkable work in Estonian music. In her music, archaic world of Estonian folk tune and clear and convincing intonational logic have melted together.
