Birgitta Festival 2013

From August 9 to 18, Birgitta Festival will take place in the ruins of the convent of St. Bridget, Tallinn. The festival program offers three opera performances, ballet with songs by Kurt Weill, musical and two ballets.

Charles Gounod’s Faust (August 9 and 11) and Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring (August 10) will be performed by Opera North (UK). Nikolai Rimski-Korsakov’s The Stars Bride will be held in cooperation with the Promfest festival and the Kaunas State Music Theatre on August 15 (conductor Erki Pehk, director and choreographer Teet Kask). Komische Oper Berlin’s production of The Seven Deadly Sins, ballet with songs by Kurt Weill on the texts by Bertolt Brecht can be seen on August 16 (conductor Kristiina Poska). Theatre „Kremlin Ballet“ (Moscow) will present a dance performance Figaro based on music by Mozart and Rossini (August 17) and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty (August 18).

In addition, the festival’s own production musical Arabella will receive its premiere performances on August 13 and 14. The brand new work, composed by Olav Ehala (libretto Leelo Tungal, based on Aino Pervik’s youth novel) starring Maria Soomets and Hannes Kaljujärv. Estonian National Youth Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Eri Klas.
