Autumn Festival of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre

September 21-24, the Autumn Festival of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre will take place for the tenth time. Festival focuses mainly on the contemporary music, international dimension is given this year by German Duo con:Fusion’s multimedia performance, Belgian ensemble I Solisti del Vento’s concert, guest composers Wim Henderickx (Belgium) and Benjamin Broening (USA). Also traditional student concert and concerts of EAMT new music ensemble and Ensemble U: will take place.

Festival will be opened with the multimedia performance by Duo con:Fusion (Marcia Lemke-Kern and Sascha Lino Lemke) on September 21 at 7 pm in Kultuurikatel.

On September 22 at 7 pm, concert of EAMT composition students will take place in EAMT chamber hall. Program consists of works by Ivan Cancialosi, Bryan Christian, Veljo Värk, Evelin Seppar, Juliana Kuklin, Ksenia Zemskaja, Kadri Laanes, Mait Jüriado, Maria Kõrvits, Aile Alveus and Riho Maimets.

On September 23 at 5 pm, EAMT new music ensemble (director Taavi Kerikmäe) will perform in EAMT opera studio, playing improvisations and Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Conversio (1994), Helena Tulve’s Saar (1993) and Arvo Pärt’s Fratres (1977). At 7 pm in chamber hall, Ensemble U: with Benjamin Broening will give a concert of Broening’s music, performing works like Changing Light (2008), Trembling Air (2008), Arioso/Doubles (2002), Dark Wood (2007) and like dreams... (2005).

On September 11, international roundtable will be held in EAMT opera studio, where among others Pascale de Groote (rector of Antwerp Conservatory) and Inge Simoens (coordinator of I Solisti del Vento) will take part, moderator is director of Tallinn Cultural Heritage Department Anu Kivilo. Discussion topics are cooperation bewteen music and art academies and city, bringing the innovative element into the city’s cultural life by university and mapping cultural space of Tallinn in relation to universities. The audience is welcome to ask questions.

At 1 pm, meeting with Belgian composer Wim Henderickx will take place in EAMT organ hall.

The final concert will take place at 7 pm in EAMT chamber hall. Belgian ensemble I Solisti del Vento will perform Wim Henderickx’s Olek shot a bear (2006), Igor Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale (1918) and Märt-Matis Lill’s Three Drinking Songs (2008) as a world premiere.
