Arvo Pärt Days to begin this weekend



The Arvo Pärt Days, dedicated to the music of Arvo Pärt, is taking place from August 31 to September 11 as a part of the Nargenfestival, directed by Tõnu Kaljuste.

Festival begins with the concert performance „Death Dance“ at the Noblessner Foundry in Tallinn, based on Arvo Pärt’s „Stabat Mater“ and Thomas Adès’s vocal-orchestral work „Totentanz”, performed by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. The dramatical part of „Death Dance“ is created by Priit Võigemast and his team including Kristjan Suits, Emer Värk, Ingmar Jõela, and Paavo Piik. 

Arvo Pärt Days also features conductor-composers James MacMillan (UK) and Pärt Uusberg. James MacMillan will conduct his opera „Clemency“ as well as Pärt’s „Saara oli 90-aastane“ and Pärt Uusberg will conduct his premiere of „Keldi palved“ with chamber choir Head Ööd, Vend and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.

The list of the musicians who will perform at the festival also includes David James (countertenor, UK), Triin Ruubel (violin), Andres Kaljuste (violin), Sandra Klimaitė (viola, Lithuania/Estonia), Theodor Sink (cello), Ene Salumäe (organ), and Sophia Rahman (piano).

The concerts will be held in Tallinn, Laulasmaa, Rapla, Paide, Rakvere, Viljandi, Tartu, and on the island of Hiiumaa.
