International New Music Festival Afekt to begin

International New Music Festival Afekt takes place in Tallinn and Tartu from October 27 to November 1. Afekt presents a wide range of contemporary music, from its recognized classics to new and fresh themes currently actual on the international scene, performed by top musicians and ensembles. Festival has multifaceted programs for a lot of tastes: concerts focusing on audiovisuals, on musical theater, experimental music, new conceptualism etc.

For the first time in Estonia, symphonic compositions by grand old men Pierre Boulez and Gerald Grisey will be performed  by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Baldur Brönnimann (Switzerland). Premieres of works by Elis Vesik, Mart Siimer, Age Veeroos, Liisa Hirsch, Marianna Liik, Helena Tulve and Michael Finnissy will be brought to the audience. Programme includes also music by Alvin Lucier, Lepo Sumera, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Alexander Schubert, Fausto Romitelli, Peter Ablinger, Rainer Bürck, John Cage, Marc Andre, Olga Neuwirth, Georges Aphergis, Vinko Globokar and many others.

The main performers of the festival are Schallfeld Ensemble (Austria), Trio Accanto (Germany), soprano and performance-artist Sirje Viise (Berlin), Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble U:, organ player Ulla Krigul and Yxus Ensemble. The festival welcomes its listeners at Tallinn Telliskivi Creative City on Vaba Lava, Tallinn and Tartu Different Rooms Club, Tartu Genialistid Club, Tartu St. Paul's Church and other concert venues. The artistic director of the festival is Monika Mattiesen.
