Arvo Pärt Days presented by the Nargenfestival takes place from September 2 to 11 and marks the 85th anniversary of the birth of the composer Arvo Pärt
The opening concert at the St. John’s Church in Tallinn features a new version of „Wenn Bach Bienen gezüchtet hätte…“ from Pärt’s early days of the tintinnabuli style, performed by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. Arranger Tõnis Kõrvits has given a more chamber-like sound to Pärt’s „Cecilia, vergine romana“ written originally for the choir and symphony orchestra. The Raschèr Saxophone Quartet from Germany will perform the arrangement by Kõrvits.
Tõnu Kaljuste conducts Pärt’s music alongside the works by Tõnu Kõrvits and Benjamin Britten with Hugo Ticciati and Priya Mitchell as violin soloists in front of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.
The programme of the ensemble Vox Clamantis focuses on the music by Pärt as well as by Cyrillus Kreek and Helena Tulve.
The festival ends with a traditional birthday concert with the music by Arvo Pärt. The concert features soprano Maria Listra, organists Ene Salumäe and Kadri Toomoja, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, chamber choir Collegium Musicale, and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.
The concerts will take place in Tallinn, Tartu, Rakvere, Paide, Rapla, Viljandi, Viimsi, Laulasmaa, Kärdla as well as, for the first time, in Kuressaare, Haapsalu and Pärnu.
The artistic director of the Arvo Pärt Days is Tõnu Kaljuste.
