Maestro Jüri Alperten passes away at 63

Maestro Jüri Alperten, a long-time conductor of the Estonian National Opera, has passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, August 26.

Jüri Alperten (September 16, 1957 – August 26, 2020), was the conductor of the Estonian National Opera since 1985 (the chief conductor in 2002–2004). He has also been the chief conductor of the symphony orchestra of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre as well as the Pärnu City Orchestra. Alperten was the conducting teacher at the EAMT since 1993.

Jüri Alperten has conducted more than 50 stage works, including operas, ballets and operettas, and brought numerous works in various genres to the stage as a music director. His last work on the stage of the Estonian National Opera was one of his favourite works, Rimsky-Korsakov's „The Tsar's Bride“.
